The Colorado Rapids have acquired Nigerian striker Daniel Amokachi, 29, who played in the 1994 and 1998 World Cups, and on NigeriaÆs 1996 Olympic gold medal-winning team. Amokachi is a former
captain of Nigeria, for which he has scored 14 goals in 45 appearances. He has struggled with injuries for the last few years. Amokachi began his European professional career at Club Bruges in
Belgium. After a short spell in Belgium, Amokachi moved to the English Premier League, where he spent two seasons with Everton. Amokachi scored two goals at the 1994 World Cup. He scored NigeriaÆs
second goal in its 3-2 comeback win over Argentina in the 1996 Olympic final. He scored four goals in NigeriaÆs successful qualifying campaign for France æ98. He helped Everton win the 1995 FA Cup.
Amokachi's most recent club experience was with Turkish team Besiktas. He has been rehabilitating from a serious knee injury in Germany, where Colorado coach Tim Hankinson recently visited Amokachi
to assess his fitness.
