U.S. women: Garrett hits hat trick

SMU sophomore Danielle Garrett hit a hat trick in her U.S. women's national team debut to lead it to a 6-0 win over Ukraine at the Brazil Soccer Cup.

The USA meets host Brazil in the final Jan. 20. The USA had edged Brazil 3-2 in first-round action.

In other matches involving U.S. national teams overseas, the U.S. boys U-17s lost their second game at an international tournament in La Serena, Chile, falling to Argentina 2-1.

The U.S. five-a-side team lost to Paraguay 9-3 at the Mundialito II in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. John Kowalski's team had tied Australia 5-5 in its opener.
