3. SCOUTING REPORT: NCAA Division II women's seeds

Play begins this week in the NCAA Division II men's and women's tournaments. The final fours for both men and women will be played the week of Nov. 16-19 in Pensacola, Fla.

Here's a look at the eight women's regional seeds. (Tomorrow: men's regional seeds.)

FRANKLIN PIERCE. Brazilian Gabriela Demoner was the MVP as the Ravens won their seventh straight NE-10 tournament title. Franklin Pierce, winner of five D2 titles, enters the postseason with 16 straight wins.

WEST CHESTER. The Golden Rams won the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship for the first time to improve to 20-0-0. Julie Karcher has tied the school record for points (45) for the second time.

CARSON-NEWMAN. The Eagles completed the double, winning the South Atlantic Conference regular-season and tournament championships. They edged Catawba, 4-2, in a shootout to win the conference tournament after the final ended in a 1-1 tie.

TAMPA. The Spartans battled back from a 2-0 deficit to claim a 4-3 victory on Shelby Kuni's golden goal in double overtime over St. Leo in the Sunshine State Conference tournament championship.

NEBRASKA-OMAHA. Senior Beth McGill scored three second-half goals and added two assists Sunday to lead No. 1 UNO to a 5-1 win over Minnesota State-Mankato. Amber Richardson tied a school record with three assists. The win gained revenge for the Mavericks' only blemish, a 1-1 tie with MSU two weeks earlier.

GRAND VALLEY STATE. Sophomore Katy Tafler's fifth hat trick of the season, in Saturday's 5-0 win over Ferris State, was her best yet. She scored three consecutive goals in a span of 2:51 to break an NCAA record for three consecutive goals scored, formerly at 3:30. Tafler leads the nation with 30 goals in 17 games.

METRO STATE. The Roadrunners were upset by Ft. Lewis, 2-1, Saturday in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference semifinals. The result ended their 61-game home winning streak.

UC SAN DIEGO. The Tritons have gone unbeaten in their last 13 games (11-0-2) since losing to Chico State on Sept, 17 in Chico. UCSD gained revenge for that loss with a 4-0 win over Chico Sunday in the California Collegiate Athletic Association final. It was the Tritons' sixth CCAA championship in seven years.
