Brazilians who've made the pilgrimage to Germany to see the national side defend its title may have found themselves stranded, after Varig, the largest Brazilian airline carrier, was forced to suspend
service to several German cities, the Associated Press reports. In a statement Wednesday Varig officials said it would cancel 180 of 365 flights in Brazil, Latin America, Europe and the USA. The
company did not say how many of its passengers would be affected. The carrier's troubles are exacerbated by the fact that several thousand Brazilians are in Germany for the World Cup finals, which
could leave many without a way home. At the moment, this also includes the Brazilian national team; of course, they will not be among those left stranded. Bavarian capital Munich was on the list of
routes dropped by Varig, but the carrier's service to Frankfurt will remain in place. The government has said it will find a way to bring stranded Brazilians home; the airline carrier is said to be in
talks with plane operators to help bring customers home from Munich.
