The USA World University Games team made history Aug. 29 when it defeated Ukraine 2-1 in Trapani, Italy to win the bronze medal. It was the first U.S. medal in the history of the World University
Games, and the highest finish in a world outdoor championship. for a U.S. men's outdoor team since the 1930 World Cup in Uruguay. After a scoreless first half, Andrew Gregor gave the U.S. the lead
from the penalty spot shortly after the intermission, but Ukraine knotted the match five minutes later. Creighton star Johnny Torres scored the gamewinner for the U.S. late in the match from an
assist by LaSalle's Cesidio Colasante. It was Torres' team-high fifth goal of the competition. The U.S. concluded the tourney with a 4-1-1 record, scoring 16 goals while allowing only five.
