Crew and Revolution sign Trinidadians

The Columbus Crew has signed 21-year-old striker Stern John, the Trinidad & Tobago international who has been a standout at spring training, while the New England Revolution added T&T midfielder David Nakhin. John, whose two goals led T&T to a 3-1 win over Honduras at the recent Gold Cup, starred last season for New Orleans of the A-League, where he was named Rookie of the Year, after being acquired from the Carolina Dynamo. He had been in the New England Revolution's training camp before the '97 season. John, who also played for Trinidad & Tobago in World Cup qualifying, played collegiately at Mercer Community College. Nakhid, a product of American University, has played in Belgium, Switzerland and Lebanon. The 33-year-old defensive midfielder has 43 caps for T&T and most recently played for Champs Fleurs. He's the fourth new foreigner for the Revs. In MLS exhibition play, the Los Angeles Galaxy's first game in Central America against Aguila of El Salvador ended in a 0-0 tie Feb. 25 when the game was called due to light failure midway through the second half. The game was played in San Miguel, El Salvador.
