MLS: Nineteen Waived in March 1 Roster Cuts

The following players were waived by MLS teams March 1 in order to reach the 22-player roster limit: Chicago Fire -- Paul Lekics (MF), Steve Patterson (F). Colorado Rapids -- Tayt Ianni (D), Julio Cengarle (MF). Columbus Crew -- none. Dallas Burn -- Chris Fox (D), Matt Caution (F), Ernest Inneh (F). D.C. United -- none. Kansas City Wizards -- Tom Hardy (D), Rodney Rambo (D), Mario Sanchez (MF). Los Angeles Galaxy -- Marco Ferruzzi (MF), Cesar Alvarado (F), Amos Magee (F). MetroStars -- Sal Leanti (D). Miami Fusion -- none. New England Revolution -- Dave Salzwedel (GK), Steve Klein (MF). San Jose Clash -- Eddie Soto (F). Tampa Bay Mutiny -- Bill May (GK), Brad Wilson (MF). In the resulting waiver draft, the only player selected was Brad Wilson, who was chosen by the Chicago Fire. Three players -- Cesidio Colasante (MetroStars), Tom McLaughlin (New England) and Daniel Hernandez (Los Angeles) -- are college-protected and will continue to train with their teams in an attempt to make the roster. Project-40 players do not count against a team's active roster limit. MLS teams will need to cut their rosters to 20 players by April 1, 1998.
