The USISL's W-League has announced that national team captain Carla Overbeck is one of four women's stars who will be playing for the Raleigh Wings in the new W-1 Elite Division of the USISL league
this season. Joining 1996 gold-medal winner Overbeck are three other former North Carolina players: national team pool goalkeeper Tracy Ducar, 1991 world championship team member Wendy Gebauer, and
recently graduated all-America defender Nel Fettig. "We feel that the W-League is beginning to make major strides in the development of women's soccer in this country," said USISL president
Francisco Marcos. "With these four players and Michelle Akers in the league, the standard of play will rise tremendously, as will the awareness of the W-League." The 1998 W-League season is set to
kick off in May.
