2. AMERICANS ABROAD: Reading continues to surprise; Eddie Lewis strikes

Reading, with American Marcus Hahnemann starting his 14th straight game of the season, downed Fulham, 1-0, to move into sixth place of the English Premier League. The victory marked the seventh of the season for the newly promoted team that was expected to spend the season fighting for survival.

Hahnemann's U.S. teammate Bobby Convey is sidelined with a bad knee. One of Hahnemann's saves came on a diving header from Brian McBride, who went the full 90. Fulham's American defender Carlos Bocanegra exited at halftime with an injury.

Manchester City remains winless on the road this season after a 1-0 loss to Liverpool, but Claudio Reyna was his team's highest rated player according to The Sun.

In England's second tier, Eddie Lewis scored his second goal of the season and assisted in Leeds' much needed 2-1 win at Plymouth. Leeds, nearly promoted to the Premier League last season, is fighting to climb out of the relegation zone.

In Germany, Kasey Keller sat out Borussia Moenchengladbach's 1-0 loss to VfB Stuttgart with a shoulder injury while Benny Feilhaber did not see action as struggling Hamburg SV fell to defending champ Bayern Munich, 2-1. Defender Steve Cherundolo came close to scoring with a long-range shot as Hannover 96 celebrated its first home win of the season, downing Mainz, 1-0.

In the Netherlands, Michael Bradley started in Heerenveen's 3-1 loss to AZ Alkmaar. In Belgium, Oguchi Onyewu went the full 90 for Standard Liege and was yellow-carded in a 3-1 win at Beerschot.
