U.S. head coach Steve Sampson sent defender Alexi Lalas and forward Preki Radosavljevic back to their respective MLS teams May 26 to get more playing time. Preki is scheduled to play for Kansas
City when the Wizards host Columbus May 27. Lalas will train with the MetroStars May 27-29, rejoin the U.S. team on the evening of May 29, and then fly to New England following the U.S.-Scotland match
May 30. He is expected to play for the MetroStars against New England on May 31. Sampson said that four players, Lalas, Radosavljevic, Marcelo Balboa and Joe-Max Moore, will return to their MLS
clubs on May 31 depending on how much playing time they get with the USA on May 30. He said that Lalas would join the MetroStars regardless of the Scotland match. "These are players that need to
stay sharp and the best way to do so is to get more playing minutes," Sampson explained. "This decision to send players back to MLS teams will benefit the U.S. national team."
