Yugoslavia continues to lead the USA 1-0 at halftime of their Group F match in Nantes. In the 11th minute, Reyna fed Cobi Jones on the left side with a fine ball, and Jones made a good run into the
box before leaving the ball back for Joe-Max Moore, whose shot from inside the box went well over the crossbar. Claudio Reyna was booked in the 13th minute for a foul against Predrag Mijatovic.
Joe-Max Moore made a good run down the right side in the 15th minute, and crossed the ball into the middle for Brian McBride, whose powerful header from the top of the box was saved by Kralj. Friedel
did well to knock Stankovic's hard shot out for a corner in the 17th minute. The kick had a major swerve to it, and Friedel was lucky to catch it before it crossed the goal line. The U.S. continued
to control possession and attack, and some good passing between Brian Maisonneuve and Moore led to a 25-yard blast from Reyna that went just high. Yugoslavia made an early substitution in the 31st
minute, when Ognjenovic replaced Predrag Mijatovic, who appeared to have injured his right shin or ankle. In the 33rd minute, Cobi Jones lofted a ball for McBride that floated too far, but the
Columbus Crew forward ran it down, turned, and fired a cross back into the box. The ball went through to Moore at the far post, but his volley went wide left. Brian McBride suffered a cut on the
head after colliding with Slovisa Jokanovic late in the half. He left the match for treament, but returned after the wound was treated and his head was bandaged. Stankovic was booked for a foul on
Reyna in the 42nd minute. It remains to be seen if Steve Sampson will make any halftime changes for the U.S. Among the possibilities is Preki Radosavljevic, who had hoped to start the match against
his native country.
