The Miami Fusion added some defensive depth by trading its third-round pick in the 1999 MLS College Draft to the MetroStars for defender Matt Knowles. Knowles, 27, is a three-time NPSL Defensive
Player of the Year who has been with the MetroStars since the inaugural MLS season. This season, since fulfilling his indoor commitments, Knowles has started four games for the Metros. "Matt is an
experienced and skillful defender," said Fusion GM Leandro Stillitano. "He should be a great addition to the team." Knowles is not expected to play for Miami when it faces D.C. United on July 1. To
make room for Knowles on the 20-man roster, the Fusion waived forward Brian Taylor, who appeared in six games for Miami this season, notching one assist.
