German Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen has signed American Frankie Hejduk to a three-year contract. Hejduk, who stars for the Tampa Bay Mutiny and appeared in midfield in all three U.S. matches at
the World Cup, will join his new team after the completion of the current MLS season in October. There will not be a transfer fee, as Hejduk is in the final year of his MLS contract. However, since
Hejduk's contract does not expire until Jan. 1, 1999, Leverkusen may pay a fee to MLS for releasing Hejduk in October.
