MLS: Columbus' Williams cleared to play

Columbus Crew midfielder Andrew Williams has been cleared to begin his MLS career and will be in uniform when the Crew visit Miami July 29. The Jamaican international arrived in Columbus on July 16 but has not been able to play due to the finalization of paper work between MLS and the Jamaican Federation. Williams, a two-time all-America selection at Rhode Island, appeared in one game for Jamaica in the 1998 World Cup in France, playing 18 minutes in the Reggae Boyz' 3-1 loss to Croatia. His arrival should help to bolster a Crew lineup depleted by injuries to Brian Maisonneuve and Ricardo Iribarren and national team duty for Ansil Elcock and Stern John.
