OBITUARY: Cosmos broadcaster Jim Karvellas

Broadcaster Jim Karvellas, the voice of the New York Cosmos, died at age 71 on Monday.

Karvellas, also famous for broadcasting New York Knicks games after moving from Baltimore, teamed up with Howard David on TV and radio coverage of New York Cosmos in 1976.

Karvellas, known for his elongated ''this is Coz-MOES SOCK-errr!'' served the team until its demise in 1984.

''Jim was the perfect man for those days,'' Cosmos' star Giorgio Chinaglia told the New York Post. ''He had a lot of flair; he was a reflection of the team.''
