Shortly before the tournament began, comScore Networks, an Internet traffic management company, conducted a multi-country online survey in which they asked respondents to name the country they felt
would win the World Cup. Overwhelmingly, Brazil was the answer. In France, 46 percent of respondents chose Brazil as the eventual winner, followed by Spain, 41 percent, the Netherlands, 36 percent,
and Germany, 32 percent. The bottom-three were England Portugal, and the USA, at 30, 25, and 20 percent respectively. Interestingly, overall responses across countries were consistent with respondents
tending to vote for either their home country or Brazil. In Portugal, 61 percent of respondents said their country would win it, followed by England with 47 percent, and the Netherlands with 42
percent. Germany was fourth with 41 percent, the U.S. fifth with 33 percent. The pessimistic Spanish and French were tied for last with 29 percent thinking their country would win.
