Gerrard Keen on Dubai Takeover

A takeover by Dubai International Capital could be exactly what Liverpool needs to ensure the long-term future of captain Steven Gerrard. Reports keep coming in that DIC is on the verge of completing an $882 million takeover of the storied English club, and Gerrard couldn't be happier. He told the Guardian he was "excited" and "the future is bright" at Liverpool after he met with representatives from DIC, which continues to examine the club's finances before lodging in their formal bid. Sameer al-Ansari, DIC's chief executive, met with Manager Rafa Benitez, Gerrard and a number of senior players where he outlined his long-term vision for Liverpool. Gerrard suggests that completion of the deal is now a matter of going through the motions. "There has been a lot of talk in the media of late about the takeover and I've been fortunate enough to meet with the people who are going to be taking over the club. I'm very excited...I think the players have the same feeling as the fans. We want to be really successful." Rick Parry, Liverpool's chief executive, who has been talking to DIC for nearly 20 months, insists that Liverpool will be a profit-generating business, not "a rich man's plaything."
