2. MLS: D.C. United reporteded set to appoint Soehn head coach

D.C. United called a press conference for 11 a.m. ET on Thursday at RFK Stadium, where it will reportedly announce the promotion of assistant coach Tom Soehn to head coach, replacing Peter Nowak, who will become U.S. national team interim head coach Bob Bradley's assistant.

Soehn was Nowak's assistant for all three years of his tenure as D.C. United coach, following three seasons as an assistant with the Chicago Fire. He played five years in MLS as a defender with both Dallas (1996-97) and Chicago (1998-2000). He played in MLS Cup '98 alongside Nowak, coming on as a substitute in the Fire's 2-0 victory over D.C. United.

Soehn was a finalist but withdrew his name from consideration for the FC Dallas head coaching job filled by Steve Morrow.
