The U.S. under-20 national team defeated its Canadian counterpart, 2-0, Wednesday on goals by
Rodrigo Hidalgo and
Sal
Zizzo in its only international match of the final 10-day training camp before Coach
Thomas Rongen names his CONCACAF U-20 World Cup qualifying
roster.
Hidalgo's goal came off a corner kick from
Dax McCarty in the 22nd minute. Four minutes later, Zizzo scored with a nice finish at the right
post after being set up by McCarty and
Mike Grella.
The USA will have two more days of camp, including an intrasquad scrimmage on Friday. Rongen
will pick his 20-player roster for January's qualifying tournament in Panama at the end of this camp, and the selected players will have a week off for the holidays before returning to Bradenton on
Dec. 30 for an eight-day camp.
The USA was without its four European-based players. Canada used four European-based players. A fifth, Hertha Berlin's
Kennedy Owusu-Ansah, was injured.
