The New England Revolution has acquired veteran defender Dan Calichman from the Los Angeles Galaxy for a pair of draft picks. Calichman, the Los Angeles captain who missed most of the 1998 season
due to a broken leg suffered in a collision with Colorado's Marcelo Balboa, returns to the Northeast, where he starred at Division III Williams College. Los Angeles will receive New England's
second-round pick (#13 overall) in the 1999 College Draft, and the first selection in the 1999 Supplemental Draft. The trade will bolster the Revolution's backline, which was often shaky in 1998,
while allowing Los Angeles to play youngster Steve Jolley alongside veteran Robin Fraser in the center of the defense.
