MLS: Rapids' Grafer breaks wrist; Dedini called up for playoffs

Colorado Rapids reserve goalkeeper Paul Grafer broke his left wrist in practice Tuesday and will miss the entire 1998 playoffs. With Grafer out, the Rapids have signed goalkeeper Randy Dedini from the A-League's Nashville Metros to back up starting goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann through the postseason. Grafer, who started four games for the Rapids in 1998 but none since May 23, suffered the injury saving a point-blank shot in a practice exercise Tuesday in Westminster. The 28-year-old Dedini, a former all-America at Sonoma State, was a 1998 A-League All-Star, finishing with a 16-8 record and a 1.12 GAA. He recorded eight shutouts on the season.
