Two days after facing Colo Colo of Chile in Santiago for the second leg of their Libertadores Cup quarterfinal series, Club America was back in action on the road -- this time in Guadalajara
The Eagles, who traveled 15 hours (including connections) to get from Santiago to Guadalajara, blew a lead three times against Atlas and settled for a 3-3 tie in the first leg
of their quarterfinal series in Mexico's Torneo Apertura. Four players started both games. Future Chicago Fire player Cuauhtemoc Blanco
played the entire game
for America in Santiago but didn't face Atlas.
America was the only Mexican team that went through to the quarterfinals of the Libertadores Cup, holding off a Colo Colo onslaught for a 2-1
loss in Santiago. It went through, 4-2, on aggregate.
Santos, which just barely avoided relegation from the First Division, held regular-season champion Pachuca to a 1-1 tie in Thursday's
other game. New Mexico product Edgar Castillo
came on after halftime and played the entire second half for Santos.
