Mitchell to be 10th Canada head coach since '86 World Cup

A day after U.S. Soccer confirmed Bob Bradley as men's national team coach, Canada Soccer Association followed its lead and has called a press conference for Thursday in Toronto to announce the appointment of under-20 national team coach Dale Mitchell as men's national team coach.

Under-17 coach Stephen Hart will guide the Canadian men at the Gold Cup, while Mitchell will coach host Canada at the Under-20 World Cup.

Mitchell, a former star in the NASL, was one of four final candidates, along with Brazilian Rene Simoes, Argentine Ossie Ardiles and Hart. The CSA board reportedly rejected a deal made with Simoes, who led Jamaica to the 1998 World Cup finals, for the job.

It took almost a year to fill the vacancy created when Frank Yallop left to coach MLS's Los Angeles Galaxy.

Mitchell will be Canada's 10th coach since it qualified for the 1986 World Cup.
