Will Real Salt Lake ever get its stadium? The Deseret Morning News offered mixed news on Thursday, but the deal still only hangs by a thread. Officials from Sandy, the Salt Lake suburb where the
stadium would be built, said it would put up money, but the $15 million initially pledged had been scaled back to something closer to $8 or $9 million. "We can only give you what we can. The rest is
your problem," the city's economic-development director told the club. Filling a tiny $6 million or $7 million gap is the least of Real owner Dave Checketts' worries: the club has yet to secure $30
million from a Salt Lake County hotel-revenue tax, which at last word from Utah state officials, was headed towards public transportation. "This is like herding cats," Checketts said. "You've got to
get one thing done before moving on to the next problem." Jordan School District, one of the city's largest, is a possible source for the missing $6 million or $7 million, but district officials won't
even consider adding its share of property-tax dollars to the pile unless the project delivers the new hotel and broadcast studio Checketts originally promised-additions that would add $25 million to
the cost, which is already $110 million. Checketts' response: Get a stadium built. "Let's worry about the other stuff later," he said.
