McBride Spurns Columbus to Stay with Fulham

The Columbus Dispatch was displeased to report Thursday that Brian McBride will not be returning home to MLS and the Columbus Crew. The 34-year-old Fulham FC striker has surprised everyone by turning in what might be the best season of his three-and-a-half-year career with the club. McBride scored his ninth goal in all competitions on Wednesday as Fulham squeaked by second-division Leicester City in a thrilling 4-3 come-from-behind FA Cup victory at home. McBride, who was Fulham's Player of the Year last season, is on pace to repeat that feat again this season, nearly matching last year's 10-goal haul. Reports across the Web claim that McBride will secure another contract extension with the Cottagers; his annual salary is believed to be close to $2 million. The Crew had hoped to sign its former star as its designated player, offering the U.S. national team veteran a contract worth at least $1 million, but given his form at the moment, it doesn't look like McBride is ready to return to MLS. In is seven years with the Crew, McBride netted 62 times and was a seven-time all-star.
