Beckham watches as Galaxy slumps to embarrassing loss to Tigres

becks watchesJust what could David Beckham have been thinking?

The Los Angeles Galaxy played its first game with its newest signing on hand to watch, and it stunk up the joint. With Beckham watching from the Galaxy's executive suite with Galaxy President Alexi Lalas, the MLS club fell to Tigres of Mexico, 3-0, in the opening game of the World Series of Football.

Mexico international Francisco Fonseca, Walter Gaitan and Alejandro Villalobos scored for the Monterrey club, which held the Galaxy to only two shots on goal.

The Galaxy changed into its new new navy, white and gold uniforms for the second half, but the switch did no good for the struggling MLS club, which is 3-5-4 heading into the All-Star break and trailing badly in the bid for one of eight playoff spots.

Galaxy Coach Frank Yallop admitted his team played poorly, calling his players "scared and afraid to commit themselves to anything."

About the only good news on the evening was that Yallop called Beckham's chances of playing against Chelsea on Saturday "promising."

Didier Drogba's first goal of the preseason gave Chelsea a 1-0 win over Suwon Blue Wings in the second game.
