Following a successful run at the U-20 World Cup, the offers are pouring in for the USA's young stars. Real Salt Lake's Freddy Adu might move to Benfica of Portugal, while the Columbus Dispatch
reveals that 19-year-old Crew midfielder Danny Szetela is being courted by the likes of Glasgow Rangers, Serie A's AS Roma and Everton of the EPL.
"The rumors are flying," Shep Messing,
Szetela's agent, told the Dispatch yesterday. "One guy said he had heard Danny was on a flight to Scotland on Sunday night and that he would like to interview Szetela before the press conference,"
he said, referring to the player's supposed introduction as a member of Rangers. Messing, a former goalkeeper of the New York Cosmos, expects concrete offers to come in this week, but he wouldn't rule
out the possibility of Szetela staying in MLS, his preferred option.
Crew coach Sigi Schmid made a statement of intent in that regard, calling Szetela his team's best midfielder during an
impressive 2-0 victory over Toronto on Sunday. Szetela confirmed that he's established a stronger bond with Schmid in recent weeks; Messing also said that MLS would is his first choice despite the
interest from Europe. Either way, Szetela must decide his future soon, as his contract with the Crew expires at the end of the season.
