Washington Freedom captures W-League title

First-half goals from Rebecca Moros and former U.S. international Christie Welsh gave the Washington Freedom a lead it would not relinquish en route to a 3-1 victory over the Atlanta Silverbacks to capture the 2007 W-League championship in its first season in the league.

The Freedom, which is expected to return to the new WUSA in 2008, saw its lead cut cut in half in the 67th minute when Krista Davey scored for Atlanta, but Tiffany McCarty put the match away with a third Freedom goal with two minutes remaining.
