Becks is likely to make his first start for the Galaxy against the Eastern Conference-leading New England Revolution on Sunday -- that is, if his tender left ankle holds up on the turf. Indeed, the
L.A. Galaxy star revealed that he's no fan of FieldTurf. In fact, Beckham was forced to apologize for his negative comments earlier Friday, not realizing that FieldTurf is a company -- and one that
supplied his soccer academy with artificial grass fields, no less. "At that level, I think it's a great surface," he told the
AP.
In any event, FieldTurf is the surface he's faced with on Sunday. Following an
encouraging 20-minute spell against D.C. United Thursday night, Becks will be expected to play at least some part in this weekend's match. Revs COO Brian Bilello, for one, hopes he does: "We, like
everyone else associated with MLS, [are] hopeful David will play this weekend," he said.
But Revs coach Steve Nicol doesn't care either way. "The whole thing's become a kind of soap
opera," he said of the Beckham traveling circus. "Yeah, why not, we'd like to see him there...but to be honest, we are more concerned with what's going on with us," without "worrying about all the
other shenanigans," he said.
