L.A. Galaxy midfielder David Beckham made it sound like he might join up with Steve McClaren's England squad for the friendly with Germany on Aug. 22 even if he can't play. "I spoke to Steve
[McClaren] about my fitness and how it has been over here," Beckham said. "He said he is looking forward to me coming over, even if I can't play. It is important that all the players are together," he
added. "It is good to get together as a team, so hopefully I can be there, but I have to be fit physically and mentally to play for the country and I have to play for the Galaxy first."
The decision to go to Europe might anger Galaxy fans, as Beckham has only played 21 minutes in MLS since his lucrative move from Real Madrid, and his ankle flared up after the match against D.C.
