Defending champion Germany announces squad for Women's World Cup

[WOMEN'S WORLD CUP COUNTDOWN] Germany's squad for the 2007 Women's World Cup includes 12 holdovers from the team that won the 20023 competition in the United States.

The team is led by three-time Women's Player of the Year Birgit Prinz, who scored seven goals in the 2003 final. Other starters back from the 2003 team include goalie Silke Rottenberg, defenders Kerstin Stegemann, Ariane Hingst and Sandra Minnert and midfielders Renate Lingor and Kerstin Garefrekes.

The most notable absentee is Conny Pohlers, who scored three goals for Germany in its 2005 UEFA Women's Championship campaign.
