Feilhaber Ready for Premiership Debut

American Benny Feilhaber has officially completed his $2 million switch from Hamburg to Derby County of the English Premier League, although the midfielder has yet to suit up for his new club, owing to the complications involving international clearance, which manager Billy Davies says could "take anything up to a week." However, if the youngster receives international clearance before 5 p.m. on Friday, he would be allowed to play against Tottenham on Sunday. The American international was on the sidelines Wednesday as Derby lost Manchester City, 1-0.

The Brazilian-born Feilhaber spoke with American Soccer Daily about the move. "The EPL is, to me, the most exciting league in the world with so much direct play and with such great players," the 23-year-old midfielder said. "I look forward to playing against all of them," At Hamburg, Feilhaber endured the frustration of switching back-and-forth between the German club's first team and its reserves. "What is most exciting for me is the fact that I will really be part of one team," he said. "I will feel really comfortable with the players and managers if I'm with them everyday."

Davies said he was impressed by Feilhaber's confidence and versatility in midfield. "Benny is a player we have been tracking and I think we got him out of Hamburg just in time-because after another six months the really big clubs would have been interested."
