U.S. winger Eddie Lewis
has left third-tier Leeds United for Derby County of the English Premier League, where he'll join 22-year-old American midfielder Benny
, who arrived in the offseason from Hamburg SV. Lewis has been playing in England since 2000, but made only one Premier League appearance, in 2002 with Fulham. The 33-year-old made
111 appearances for Preston Northend (2002-05) and 85 for Leeds (2005-07) in the League Championship (second tier).
Leeds came close to EPL promotion in 2006, falling in the playoffs to
Watford. But Leeds was relegated to the third-tier (League One) after the 2006-07 season. Lewis played in one league game and one League Cup game this season before the Derby transfer.
Feilhaber has yet to see action for Derby, which won promotion to the EPL last season through the League Championship playoffs.
Derby is winless this season with two losses and a tie.
Lewis played for the USA at the 2002 and 2006 World Cups. He has 73 caps and eight goals for the USA.
