AC Milan insists that Ronaldo (the "original" Ronaldo that is) will be back to his best for the Rossoneri this season, after doctors discovered a condition that has been affecting his form-and his
weight. Called hypothyroidism, the condition is caused by insufficient production of hormones by the thyroid gland and can lead to weight gain, according to Reuters.
For the past two years,
Ronaldo has been referred to as "el gordo" (the fat one) by fans and the press in both Madrid and Brazil. After his move to Milan in January, the Brazilian legend enjoyed a return to form; Milan coach
Carlo Ancelotti says he will be even better this year and is already 12 pounds lighter thanks to a combination of anti-hypothyroidism pills and a new training program.
"Soon you will see
him, very soon. It will be a surprise for everyone. He seems like a model," Ancelotti told reporters, although he added that a hamstring injury would prevent the Brazilian striker from playing for at
least three weeks. " He will have a great season, he is very motivated and really wants to demonstrate again that he is the strongest attacker in the world." Milan visits newly-promoted Genoa in its
Serie A opener on Sunday, but its fans won't be permitted to attend due to the threat of violence.
