Keller starts, Dempsey scores for Fulham

[AMERICANS IN ENGLAND] Clint Dempsey, after three appearances off the bench, got his first start of the season for Fulham and scored in the 6th minute in a 2-1 loss to Aston Villa. Goalkeeper Kasey Keller, signed last week, also started, as did defender Carlos Bocanegra. Fulham's fourth American, Brian McBride, is sidelined until December after undergoing surgery for a dislocated knee cap.

Keller was beaten on an own goal and in the 90th minute by Shaun Maloney.

Reading's American goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann also came out on the losing end, 3-0 at Bolton, in a game that saw Bobby Convey enter for Reading in the 63rd minute.

Two American keepers faced off as Everton (Tim Howard) and Blackburn (Brad Friedel) played to a 1-1 tie. Both made good saves in the stalemate

Eddie Lewis' debut with Derby ended in a 2-1 home loss to Birmingham City.

Jonathan Spector stayed on the West Ham bench in a 1-1 tie with Wigan Athletic.
