If you're a GolTV subscriber, you may have noticed that the Madrid derby between Real and Atletico Madrid was blacked out this weekend. The only explanation that was offered was a vague reference to
contract disputes in Spain. What actually happened is that the La Liga rights owners cut off services to many of its distributors, including GolTV's, due to an outstanding claim by the league. In some
parts of the world, all La Liga matches were blacked out as a result; the league aims to recoup more than $80 million it's owed from last season.
You're probably now wondering whether that's
going to happen again, and the answer is, unless you hear otherwise, probably, as the two groups are still in dispute. A notice on the GolTV Web site says, "We are doing all that is within our power
to resolve this situation and will do our very best to keep you informed should there be any further issues.
