MLSNet Sees Beckham Bounce

MLSNet.com, the official Web site of Major League Soccer, has seen a 117 percent boost in Web traffic over the previous year since the arrival of David Beckham to MLS, according to comScore Media Metrix, which chronicles the flow of traffic to Web sites. According to the measurement firm, traffic to MLSnet.com hovered at 230,000 unique users at the end of 2006, but once the former England captain signed with MLS in January, traffic to the site hit 808,000 uniques, a 252 percent month-to-month increase.

Since then, traffic has climbed steadily topping out at over 1 million unique visitors on July 13 and July 21, when Beckham made his first and second appearances for the L.A. Galaxy. "David Beckham's impact on the MLS league's official website has been enormous, said Bob Ivins, EVP of International Markets at comScore. "The player has single handedly doubled the number of visitors to mlsnet.com versus last year, which let's not forget, was a World Cup year."
