Soccer America Women's Player of the Week

Lindsay Thorstenson, who was outstanding in goal for South Carolina in its sensational 1-0 upset win over defending national champion North Carolina, is Soccer America's Women's Player of the Week for games played Aug. 31-Sept. 2.


Thorstenson (Macon, Ga.) recorded fives saves to became the first goalie to shut out North Carolina since Sept. 10, 2004 -- a span of 57 Tar Heel games.

Thorstenson came up big in stopping 2006 ACC Player of the Year Yael Averbuch from seven yards out.

With the shutout, Thorstenson moved up to fourth place on the South Carolina all-time list with seven career shutouts.

The Gamecocks are No. 13 in the Soccer America rankings, earning their highest ranking ever.
