One of the most intriguing first-year players in college soccer is Virginia Tech's Robert Edmans.
At 6-foot-6, the Englishman is an imposing target
whom Hokie fans believe will team up with Ghanaian star Patrick Nyarko
to form one of the best 1-1 combinations in the country.
demonstrated that he is just as dangerous with his feet as he is with his head when he scored from 40 yards in the 2-1 win over ranked St. John's on Sunday.
The ball came loose at
midfield in the 59 th minute when Edmans, a transfer from Loughborough University, found himself dribbling toward the St. John's with a lot of room to maneuver. Edmans then abruptly fired a shot
from 40 yards out that tucked just under the right cross bar to give Tech a 2-0 lead.
It was the 20-year-old Edmans' strength in the air that led to the first Hokie goal. He knocked down
a ball with his head, and Marcus Reed
scored from the middle of the penalty area.
With 2-1 wins over Clemson and St. John's, Tech captured the
Hawthorn Suites Hokie Invitational.
