Typhoon interrupts Women's World Cup

Typhoon Wipha swept through China's East Coast early Wednesday, sending millions of residents fleeing to evacuation shelter and disrupting the Women's World Cup.

Waves of more than 30 feet hit the shore, and flooding brought central Shanghai to a standstill.

The U.S. women's national team had beaten Nigeria, 1-0, Tuesday in heavy rain in Shanghai, and the team was forced to stay in Shanghai instead moving on to Tianjin, where it will play England in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

FIFA has announced that Wednesday's matches in Shanghai and Hangzhou were postponed due to Typhoon Wipha and both will played on Thursday in Hangzhou.

The Norway-Ghana Group C match moves from Shanghai to Hangzhou. The Brazil-Denmark Group D match was also postponed 24 hours and will now be played as part of a doubleheader in Hangzhou.

The other Wednesday matches in Chengdu and Tianjin remain unchanged: Australia-Canada in Chengdu and China-New Zealand in Tianjin.
