A goal for the ages

[SPORTSMANSHIP] In English League Cup play on Tuesday, Leicester City allowed Nottingham Forest to take the ball from the opening kickoff and score without opposition. Leicester City came back to win, 3-2, in what was a replay of the match last month that was abandoned at halftime because Leicester player Clive Clarke suffered a heart attack. Forest was leading, 1-0, when the original match was abandoned, but that goal did not carry over into the replay.

Goalkeeper Paul Smith dribbled downfield unchallenged and shot into an empty net to give Forest the 1-0.

"We just felt it was the right thing to do," said new Leicester coach Gary Megson. "The first game ended in tragic circumstances with Clive's heart attack ... but the rules say that Forest would have been perfectly entitled to play out the game. I wasn't at the original game but I was told that Forest were well on top"

Forest, however, opted to call off the original game and the club's medical staff is credited with saving Clarke's life.
