What We're Reading

Heady Times for Arsenal

"These are heady days for Arsenal," says the Guardian's David Hytner. Indeed, undefeated at the top of the Premier League, playing some of the most stylish soccer in Europe to a consistently sold-out Emirates Stadium, with a sound financial standing and billionaire-suitors lining up to get a piece, things could not be going much better for the Gunners. Oh, and to cap it all off, Wednesday night Arsene Wenger's young men turned in the best performance of Champions League Match Day 1, handing UEFA Cup champ FC Sevilla a comprehensive 3-0 beating in front of the home fans.

"We want more," a heady-sounding Wenger said after the Sevilla win. "More support, more fans, and I hope that one day the manager and the next board extend this stadium and build 100,000 on the roof. I always said I am amazed by the dimension of this club and of the support of this club. We are happy to have such a support but we have a big responsibility to keep these people happy. We try, and at the moment we manage to do that."

Wenger hailed an "almost a perfect start," from the EPL giant, dropping just two points from its first five games to stand alone at the top of the Premier League. Arsenal striker Robin van Persie, who never sounds short of confidence, agreed: "We are playing football from a different world at the moment," he said. "It's nothing to do with age, it's to do with quality." Van Persie scored the second of Arsenal's three goals. Cesc Fabregas grabbed the first from a deflected shot in the 58th minute, while Eduardo da Silva tapped in a third in stoppage time.
