Naeher saves the day for Penn State

Sophomore goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher confirmed why she is one of the country's top young women's keepers, making eight saves in Penn State's 2-1 win at Notre Dame on Sunday.

The Nittany Lions avenged their 2006 NCAA quarterfinal loss at the hands of Notre Dame with the win, the first for the Lions in their series with Notre Dame.

Redshirt sophomore Ashley Myers and sophomore transfer Melissa Hayes scored in the Nittany Lions’ comeback win made possible by Naeher's stellar afternoon.

"Alyssa Naeher was the difference in the result today," said Penn State coach Erica Walsh. "We battled to get back into the game and once we had the two goals, Alyssa was the difference in holding on to that."
