Soccer America Women's Player of the Week

U.S. international Lauren Cheney became just the third player in UCLA history to score four goals in a match, leading the Bruins to a 6-0 victory over visiting Hawaii on Sunday and earning Soccer America Women's Player of the Week honors for games played Sept. 17-23.

Cheney, who had just four goals on the year coming into Sunday's match, doubled her season total.

Her first strike came in the first 10 minutes of the match, as she hooked up with junior Christina DiMartino on a through ball. Less than two minutes later Cheney struck again, scoring on a left-footed shot into the far post after receiving a ball from freshman Kylie Wright.

In the second half, Cheney again had two goals within a matter of minutes of each other. She got the hat trick in the 56th minute, dribbling to the top of the box where she curled a shot around Hawaii goalkeeper Nicole McClure. Cheney beat McClure again less than a minute later, putting away a close-range shot set up by DiMartino and Danesha Adams.

Cheney, who was taken out of the game after her fourth goal, joined Adams and Traci Arkenberg as the only Bruins to accomplish the feat.
