One of the most intriguing MLS matches of the year will take place on Saturday at the Home Depot Center, and it won't involve David Beckham or his Los Angeles Galaxy. Chivas USA hosts the Chicago,
and it will be "El Emperador" (Claudio Suarez) vs. "El Cuau" (Cuauhtemoc Blanco) and Chivas (the parent club of Chivas USA) vs. Club America (Blanco's former club) in an MLS version of the
Superclasico.
The 34-year-old Blanco has certainly lived up to his billing since arriving at the Fire this summer. He has scored three goals, led the team with six assists in his 10
games and mobilized Club America fans. There is no love loss between Chivas fans and Blanco, however.
"Basically, he thinks he's a god," Obideo Mojarro, president of the
1,000-member Los Angeles chapter of Legion 1908, told the Daily Breeze. "Club America is a team and Cuauhtemoc Blanco is just one man, but there is definitely a rivalry between that one man and fans
of Chivas. Welcomes are given to people who deserve respect; he doesn't deserve any of ours."
