Goalkeeper Hope Solo
, who was kicked off the U.S.
team during the Women's World Cup, has been invited back by Coach Greg Ryan
for the team's three-game series with Mexico, which kicks off Saturday in St. Louis. After
being benched for the USA's semifinal against Brazil and replaced by Briana Scurry
, Solo lashed out at Ryan and said she would have saved the goals Brazil put past Scurry in
the 4-0 loss. Scurry is also on the 20-player roster for the Mexico series.
Solo had started the first four games of the World Cup and posted shutouts in the three games leading up
to semifinal. Ryan who cited Scurry's performance in the 2003 Olympic U.S. final win against Brazil as the reason for surprising switch.
Ryan dismissed Solo from the squad prior
to the third-place game, which the USA won, 4-1, over Norway with Scurry in goal.
After the clash in St. Louis, the USA hosts Mexico in in Portland, Ore., Oct. 17 and in
Albuquerque, N.M., Oct. 20.
Only one player from the World Cup roster is not on the roster: midfielder Marci Jobson
, who returned to her post as head women's
soccer coach at Northern Illinois University
Defender Stephanie Lopez
will not be available to play in the first and third matches, as she has returned to her
college team at the University of Portland, but will available for the match in Portland. GOALKEEPERS
