Cal Poly took over first place in the Big West with a 2-1 win over defending national champion UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday night before a record crowd of 7,143 fans at Spanos Stadium.

fans in the huge crowd flooded onto the field at the game's conclusion to celebrate Cal Poly's victory. The attendance was a new school record for a men's soccer match, breaking the previous record
of 2,694, set in 1996.

David Zamora had opened the scoring for Cal Poly on a free kick from the top of the box in the 16th
minute, but the Gauchos equalized on
David Walker's header in the 44th minute.
