[TOP 25 WOMEN'S ACTION] No. 3 Virginia extended its unbeaten streak to 12 games with a 2-0 win over Virginia Tech on Thursday night.
The game drew a
record women's crowd of 2,011 and was televised nationally on Fox Soccer Channel.
Jen Redmond set up both Cav goals, feeding
Sinead Farrelly in the 35th minute with a though ball and finding
Nikki Krzysik with a free kick in the 81st minute.
Chantel Jones, who went into the game with a 0.27 goals-against average, the lowest in the nation, posted her 10th shutout of the season.
"You could feel the atmosphere
tonight, which was a combination of the rivalry and the TV cameras," said Cavs coach
Steve Swanson. "To get the first goal was huge because it made them
have to chase the game. The second one was important to get to close out the game."
