It's not often that England's Professional Game Match Board, the organization that allocates referees for games, hands out suspensions, which means that when it does, the performance of the referee in question must have been pretty awful, indeed. For his awful performance in the Merseyside derby on Saturday -- awful to anyone who doesn't support Liverpool, that is - Mark Clattenburg was left out of the PGMB's referee lineup this weekend.

Clattenburg was guilty of three poor decisions which cost Everton a match they should have at least walked away from with a point, including a sending-off/penalty-kick to Liverpool for a foul that came outside the box, an elbow for which Liverpool's Dirk Kuyt could have easily been ejected, and a missed penalty for a clear foul on Everton's Joleon Lescott in the last minute of the game. Understandably, Everton manager David Moyes was irate following the 2-1 home defeat and the double-sending off of Tony Hibbert and Phil Neville. Clattenburg's next match is Thursday's UEFA clash between Lokomotiv Moscow and Atletico Madrid in Moscow.
