[RECORD] Senior
Ashley Fortune set an NCAA women's single-game record for assists with eight and scored four times to
equal the NCAA Division I single-game mark for total points (16) in Francis Marion's 14-0 win over Howard on Sunday.
Fortune's four goals equaled the Division I season-high for 2007, and the
Patriots' 14-goal total also represented a season-high for Division I programs in 2007.
Fortune's eight assists are the most in a single match for all NCAA divisions and surpassed the
previous Division I record of six, set by four players -- most recently by
Marit Foss of Jacksonville in 2000.
Fortune's 16 total points equals
the Division I single-match record set by
Kristen Arnott of Saint Francis (Pa.) in 2000.
By the 10th minute, Fortune had three assists, she added
a fourth in the 29th minute and added four more in the second half.
Three of her assists were on goals by
Kirby Stenard, who scored her second hat
trick of her career. Fortune's four goals gave her three career hat tricks.
Sophomore
Angela Salem scored twice and assisted on three goals.
Freshmen
M.A. Burrows,
Kristi Caldwell,
Gabi Byrd and
Rebecca Nelson all recorded their first career goals.
